Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Thu, March 13, 2008 - 8:20 PMThe A's play in the American League. That's not real baseball. End of story.
I'm with you on Stabler, though. -
-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 2:24 PMDude... The American league is a superior brand of baseball Charlie Finley is a genius!!! Since 1973 the AL has won 6 more World Series than the NL. The DH makes a harder league..
The American League 4 Ever!!!

-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Sat, March 15, 2008 - 7:54 PMCharlie Finley? Genius? The guy who brought Charlie O. the Mule to the games and wanted to paint each base a different color? The guy who wanted to play with orange baseballs? The guy who invented those hideous green and gold uniforms?!?
Well that makes two East Bay geniuses then... Charlie Finley and Al Davis. Add the guy who invented crack cocaine to that list and you have the perfect trifecta.
Don't get me started on the DH. That ain't real baseball. But here's a similar suggestion for football. Why not have the quarterback throw the football, but have a designated player stand next to him to take all the sacks. That way the quaterback won't get hurt and he can still play well into his 40's.

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 1:35 AMOr another football comparison- a receiver who stands out-of-bounds and just catches the ball. You can't tackle him because he's not actually on the field like the real players.
If you don't play a position then you're not a real baseball player. There's a place for guys who can only hit. It's called the beer league.
Please, this being on the same side as P'lito is killing me. Stick to the topic!!! -
-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 2:42 PMShaddap. We make a good tag team.
The designated hitter was one of the worse things ever introduced into baseball, second only to steroids. I think Charlie Finley was juiced when he came up with that idea.
Next topic: The Fremont A's. -

Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 10:48 PMI find it ironic that Laney (a 2 year college) has their graduation at the paramount, City College (where I went - also a 2-year) has theirs at Davies Symphony Hall, yet my graduation from SF State was at ......the football field.
anyway congrats!

Wed, March 12, 2008 - 2:10 PMI think that we will be there. I liked retro active at the old place, I forget the name. We used to go all the time because Mike W and my boyfriend were coworkers, but not anymore. So we dropped off our attendance a little bit. But hopefully we pick it up again.

Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 7:59 AMI love the Uptown, but a Thursday night... man, nobody seems to work, do they??
We need a weekend night club in the Eastbay, so we don't have to go to the hated, nasty, full-with-stucked-up-shitty-people SF city all the time!! -
-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 8:52 AMTwo words: Al Davis. Last nail in the coffin. -

Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 9:51 AMBack to the topic...
Well, that was much better. Thanks to everyone who came out last night. Yes, it really was free to get in. It was nice to have a dance floor full of people. And speaking of people, and this is no exaggeration, at 11pm the ratio of girls to boys was- 10 girls to 1 boy. Now that's my kinda club!
We had dinner about two doors down from The Uptown at a place called Flora. A little pricey, but good food and drinks. Turning into a nice little neighborhood. I'm also excited to see what they're doing to the old Oakland Theatre; turning it into a 4000 seat concert hall. You go, East Bay! -
-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:25 PMDo you mean the FOX Theatre? that will be an APE venue. I'm curious what shows will happen there...Glad the event went well!
-
Re: Calling all you East Bay dwellers!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:29 PMI've always thought the Fox Oakland Theater was very interesting, but how will it compete with the Paramont, a couple of blocks away? It says APE is going to manage it.
