"oh god I loved Paul Collins Beat"

As good as The Beat were on vinyl, they were even better live. My Top-5 is really based on live performances, as I saw all of those bands countless times.

You guys r killing me... I had to think about this all day long... Greg Kihn was great the second best band on the Bezerkeley label next to Jonathan Richman and his Modern Lovers. The Tubes are great… I was in traffic on the 580 thinking about this 1. So here we go… Good call on the readymades… I could mention Flipper, shit I think Sex Bomb is the best bass riff ever!!! And Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho, Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey… Robert Sidler (sp?) of Christian Boy fame or Voice Farm… (scratch Voice Farm even though they where like the house band at the Berkeley Square.) (shit... The Berkeley Square... I remeber tapping grown ups accross the street at JV liqours to hook us up with boooooze) Agreed Paul Collins Beat was the shit!!! Pearl Harbor was fun stuff to listen to… Then there’s Fang… Didn’t the lead singer of Fang kill somebody??? I always loved The Avengers, Nuns and The Uptones and their KUSA ep. Then there is The Faction but they’re the best skate punk rock band but they’re from San Jose… Who was that band that sang “Sergio Valente”? Was it the Controllers??? And that chick band that was on the Quake rock of 84 LP… The Stir Ups… they were cute… There was this little Berkeley band call Green Day. Then there’s The Dance Hall Crashers, the Rudiments and the greatest ska/punk band to ever come from SF… No not Operation Ivy but… THE OFFS!!! Also good call on Hot Tuna’s Jack Casady’s cool Punk Band…

Here’s the list, subject to change… I have to be careful as to not offend any band and to keep from getting deleted from their myspace…. ;-)

        1. The Dead Kennedys
        2. Translator
        3. Wire Train
        4. The Mutants
        5. It’s a tie: Romeo Void, The Offs

        Keep Rockihn….

OK, if this were any bands from Bay Area Fang would be up there. I was a silly fan. Sammytown was involved in someone falling down stairs and dying in Texas, I believe.

Just 'cause you're the moderator doesn't mean that you get to vote twice.

...and its spelled 'Beatnik BEACH', beyotch.

Can we stick to SF bands only? The subject title isn't 'Top-5 Bay Area Bands'.

                Green Day is out.

In that case, Agent Deadlies are out, too. They're a Pacifica band.

Dickless, don't you get tired of being wrong all the time? For your information, and according to my son, Agent Deadlies is a San Francisco band. They are based in San Francisco because their rehersal studio is in San Francisco (grandpa's garage on 26th and Ulloa). Most of their gigs have been in SF.

You may be correct about Beatnick Beatch but so am I *technically* by calling you a beyotch. And NO you can't kick me out of NWC. I voted for you in SF Weekly. ;-p

I forgot about Wire Train. They were my favorite local "Rock of The 80's" band. Certainly an HM at least. I'm game for another five go around. I never saw The Stir Ups. There are lots of relocated bands here...whatever

I lived in Reno so I knew of bands friends brought to my attention but when I moved to SF I guess my list would be:

        1. Paul Collins Beat
        2. Translator (oh my, they were from SF! What a great band another album I wore out)
        3. Housecoat Project (I saw them New Years 1988, they were fun)
        4. Voice Farm
        5. Until December

I guess I need to brush up on what bands were from SF specifically.
