DJ Skip - "They find it all, a different story"
“Once again we have reached an anniversary; seventeen this time.
Amazing! Can you name all of the different clubs we have had an
anniversary party at? And once again this first set is all about my
personal favorites and traditional songs. I will commence with the
traditional playing of Herman Brood’s “Saturday Night” and then
dust off some old faves and “new.” Lately I’ve been listening to
Section 25, having completely missed them the first time around,
they are now “new” to me. And then some New Order, Soft Cell,
A Flock of Seagulls, and one dedicated to John Hughes.” -Skip

The Charlatans, Happy Mondays, The Smiths, The La's, Elastica,

“After being a DJ and a club goer for almost 20 years now, I've
definitely put together quite a list of tracks that in one way or another
just seem to work for me. Tonight, I'd like to play some of the songs
that have become my personal favorites over the years. There's no
real rhyme or reason to my taste. I like some songs just for the lyrics,
some for the music itself and some just because they're great to dance
to. Hopefully you'll feel the same way about most of them tonight

DJ Andy T - "Clubber’s Delight"
“New Wave City is the only nightclub event I know of where the
clientele's music knowledge rivals that of the DJ's. Tonight I'm
including a selection of tracks that I've had some education on
courtesy of New Wave City regulars. Some of these are B sides
I wouldn't have thought could keep the dance floor going. Some
are rare remixes, some are specifically not remixes, and a few are
the most impassioned requests I've ever heard. Listen for Gary Numan,
Yazoo, Berlin, Shriekback, and Joy Division among others!” - Andy T

DJ Shindog - "Mink DeVille & late 70s - that's New Wave too"
“We're known as an "80s Dance Party," but New Wave started in the
late 70s, which I'll feature in this hour, including music by Mink
DeVille, whose leader Willy DeVille just passed away on August 6,
from cancer. Mink DeVille's late 70s history was part of the New
York and CBGBs scene, with Willy and band standing apart from
the others for their love of early rock, r&b and Spanish rhythms. I
was lucky to see a great package tour of Mink DeVille, Rockpile
(with Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds), and Elvis Costello.
Long live Willy DeVille!” -Shindog

A Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
THANK YOU...to all New Wave City members, friends, family, & staff, who
have made these seventeen years possible. A very wise
woman once said to us, “New Wave City is like Tinkerbell;
it will continue to exist as long as people believe.”

Re: "17-Year Anniversary" - program notes & set lists
Sun, August 23, 2009 - 10:15 AMAwesome night! It felt like the most wonderful dysfunctional family reunion...literally, with my Mom being there. She loved the music, danced with old man John and really let loose when she heard Blondie's Heart of Glass. She said if she lived here, she'd be a regular too. lol Thanks for giving birth to NWC, it's truly a wonderful thing you and Steve have done creating a community of amazing people who really love music and dancing. Love to you all. -
